A brief description regarding possible awards and rewards are given below. The following seven distances, 10, 15, 21.1, 30, 42.2, 56 and Comrades are currently used by Edgemead Runners to rewards their members. The official running year of Edgemead Runners is from October to September.
The new kit design was approved in October 2012 as official club kit to be worn at races. The 3 options being the sleeveless vest, short sleeve shirt (unisex) & long sleeve shirt (unisex).
We launched the new club kit at the 1st race on the 2013 WPA Calendar (Bay to Bay 15 & 30km Race) on Sunday, 5 January 2013. A good turn-out ensured that the bold new design made a good impact and we have received a lot of positive feedback from fellow runners & supporters alike.
We trust that the new look will carry us forward to a wonderful successful racing future!
Although the official history of the Edgemead Runners begins with the first members running in the club colours on 1 August 1992, its origins can be traced to an article which appeared in the Edgemead News (Vol.17 No 5) of December 1991.
“ATTENTION ALL EDGEMEAD RUNNERS !!!
The time has come to start a local running club. I need your support in getting this club off the ground. This call goes out to every person that owns a pair of running shoes or plans to. From the “Ultra” runner to the “Thinking about it” runner. Also runners that are presently running for other clubs. We need your support.
The Edgemead Runners Memorial Race will be held for the 41st time in 2014 and will once again attract hundreds of runners, joggers and fun seekers to the Mouille Point Lighthouse for the annual end of year event.
Now called the Runners Memorial Race, it originated in 1973 as the New Year’s Eve Race and then became the Chris McKinnon Memorial Race to honour the Western Province runner killed while on a training run in Pretoria. Its new name was chosen to commemorate all Western Province runners who died tragically.
